In Peace, Bugs, and Understanding: An Adventure in Sibling Harmony, young Lily is upset when her little sister Ruby spoils their game during a family picnic. Lily’s frustration turns into anger, but her father gives her a special old journal, once belonging to her great-grandfather. In the journal, she reads about his encounter with a creature called “Anger” and how he learns to transform that anger by practicing Metta (loving kindness). Through this story-within-a-story, Lily realizes that anger is something one can acknowledge and soothe—rather than ignore or fight—and begins to see how she might respond differently with her sister. With soft watercolor illustrations and gentle text, the book teaches children how to recognize strong feelings, be kind (to others and oneself), and find peace and understanding in familial relationships.
