The Fall of Freddie the Leaf tells the allegorical story of Freddie, a leaf who lives among many leaves on a branch of a tree. He watches the seasons change—spring, summer, fall—with fascination and fear. As autumn arrives, his fellow leaves fall, and he is left unable to let go of the branch. Freddie is afraid of what lies ahead, but guided by Daniel, the wise, older leaf, he gradually comes to understand that life includes change and endings, that falling is part of the natural cycle, and that death (or letting go) can lead to renewal. When he finally falls, Freddie sees the world from a new perspective—one of peace, acceptance, and interconnectedness. The story is gentle, comforting, and has been used to help children (and adults) process grief, loss, and the natural rhythms of life and death.
