The Time of Contempt is the second novel in The Witcher Saga by Andrzej Sapkowski, following Blood of Elves.
The story continues the journey of Geralt of Rivia, a monster hunter known as a Witcher, and his young ward Ciri, who possesses extraordinary magical powers and a mysterious destiny.

As war looms between the Northern Kingdoms and the Nilfgaardian Empire, tensions rise among mages, kings, and magical orders. Ciri is sent to train at the Aretuza Academy for sorceresses, but political betrayal and violence erupt when the mages’ council collapses in chaos — known as the Thanedd Coup.

Separated from Geralt and her mentor Yennefer, Ciri must survive on her own. She falls into the desert and later becomes entangled with a gang known as the Rats, beginning her transformation from an innocent princess into a hardened survivor.

Meanwhile, Geralt is gravely injured during the coup and must recover while searching for Ciri in a world torn apart by war and treachery.
The novel explores themes of power, corruption, fate, and the loss of innocence as both Ciri and Geralt face the harsh realities of a world consumed by contempt and chaos.
